This demo focuses on the transformation of works on paper to wood panels that can then be handled as paintings, collages, and assemblages. Previously completed works on paper, artworks in progress and even raw paper are all suitable for mounting. Pre-made “cradled” boxes are readily available but you will also learn how to work with hollow core doors as well as how to create your own wood panels. You will learn how to prepare your paper and wood surfaces paying special attention to absorbency or priming depending on the approach you choose. Collage plays a major role and the uses of various sealers and glues will be demonstrated.
In its simplest approach this is an opportunity for artists who work on paper to present their art without the need for matting and framing under glass. In a more complex approach the notion of the “artist as an inventor” will be highlighted, as problem solving such as creating supports for assemblage and cutting into and building up of surfaces become the challenge of how best to express your artistic vision.
